Ogilvie’s varsity football team opened up the 2008 season last week with a solid 22-14 road win against Mesabi East.
Michael Anderson spearheaded the Lion offense with 144 yards on the ground. David Krebs snagged a 23-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cyle DeBoer, who completed 5-of-16 passes for 52 yards. DeBoer also ran for a score.
Perhaps the key stat was the time of possession. In all, Ogilvie had the ball for 36 minutes, compared to just 12 for Mesabi.
Defensively, Jed Heins, Marshall Flettre-Wubben and Akshya Mahindru all had nine tackles to lead the team. Luke Munsterteiger notched a sack in the win, and Tom Sullivan grabbed a key interception.
The Lions next play Onamia at home on Friday, Sept. 5.
