New Mille Lacs Lake access to be dedicated to Frank Schneider, Jr.

The newest Mille Lacs Lake public water access will be dedicated to Frank Schneider, Jr., at a grand opening event on Wednesday, July 9, at 1:30 p.m.

The Liberty Beach access is located on the east side of the lake approximately eight miles north of Isle.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Trails and Waterways, acquired the parcel in 2005 and developed the site in 2007. The access has two ramps for launching and retrieval of boats, 40 vehicle/trailer parking spaces, and a harbor that offers boaters protection from wind and storms.

Frank Schneider, Jr. (1919 - 2005) was an avid angler, hunter and citizen activist. He was a driving force in bringing public access and fishing piers to scores of Minnesota lakes. He was also involved in many aspects of fisheries management. He was a long-time member and former president of Muskies Inc. He co-founded and lead the Minnesota Sportfishing Congress.

The grand opening event is open to the public. For more information, contact Nancy Stewart at (651) 259-5616.
